Hello and thank you to all whānau who have found time to seek knowledge and
understanding about our class, Te Pitau Whakarei, the Māori Medium Reo
Enrichment Unit at Nelson Intermediate School.
For the students, the expectations of them in Te Pitau Whakarei
are as follows:

The Values and Attitudes are the guiding prinicples that this class is built on. It encompasses five basic Māori principles Manaakitanga, Kaitiakitanga, Rangatiratanga, Whanaungatanga and Pitau Whakareitanga (Hirangatanga). These values and attitudes remind and have students become accountable for their own learning.

Students learn from Te Marautanga o Aotearoa and assessment is guided by Ngā Whanaketanga Rumaki Māori for kōrero, pānui and tuhituhi.

Students learn from New Zealand Curriculum and assessment is guided by The National Standards for maths.
Te Pitau Whakarei is a learning environment dedicated to uplifting the mana of its students through te reo me ōna tikanga Māori, with the combined committed efforts of the students, their whanau, the kaiako and wider partners such as the wider school and marae.
